A Call to
Serve Together...in the Name of Christ
One community working
together can transform individual lives and a whole community In the
Name of Christ. There are many similarities to the words of St.
Paul in his letter to the church at Corinth when he said that the
body is not made up of one part but of many.
Each part serves a
unique function, and no one part can say to another part “I don’t
need you” Rather God has arranged the parts just where he wanted
them to be so that each should have equal concern for all of the
other parts. (Paraphrase 1 Corinthians 12: 14-26)
Love INC is an organizational bridge between the spiritual
and the secular in our communities, a network of churches that
links ministries and volunteers to needy people. It is a
cooperative effort between churches and community agencies to
provide effective help for the disadvantaged.
Consider Love INC as a body of many and varied parts that focuses on
meeting many of these needs, according to the resources available
through its network of churches and community agencies. While the
call-center is the hub of the operation, it could not be effective
without the services of the volunteers from partner churches. To
maximize the donations from individuals and businesses, they have to
be channeled appropriately.
This responsibility is
assigned to staff working under the direction of a local board of
directors. Under the umbrella of the national Love INC organization,
the local leaders must prioritize which programs are working (and
which ones are not) and allocate resources accordingly.
Love INC in Anchorage has an urgent need for board leadership to
make the guiding decisions for staff and the volunteers to
implement. Again quoting St. Paul, “We have different gifts
according to the grace given us.” If your gift is serving, you
should serve; if encouraging, you should encourage.” To those gifted
with leadership, he simply says, “Let them govern diligently.”

ability to listen, discern and make wise decisions, can speak with
conviction about a cause you believe in, and are willing to give of
your time, talent and money, consider serving as a board member
